Dr. Helen Roberts-Sweeney, DVM:
Dr. Helen Sweeney (formerly Roberts) is a small and exotic animal veterinarian and the owner of Elma Animal Hospital. Dr. Sweeney is a 1990 graduate of the University of Georgia- College of Veterinary Medicine. She has a special interest in small animal surgery, and exotic pet medicine and surgery. She also treats pet fish and owns Aquatic Veterinary Services of WNY. She has practiced veterinary medicine in the WNY Southtowns for over twenty years!! Her little pups, “Phoenix” and “Gryphon” are often found at the front desk “helping” the receptionists and staff!
Dr. Sweeney is very active in the community including public health work for Erie County Health Department, volunteering at the Buffalo Zoo when another veterinarian is needed, and working as the veterinary member on the VA's IACUC committee.
Dr. Sweeney also lectures internationally on aquatic animal medicine and surgery at multiple veterinary conferences, is a consultant for the Veterinary Information Network (VIN), and has taught online pharmacology and radiology courses for VetMedTeam.
She is also the editor and co-author of the book, "Fundamentals of Ornamental Fish Health" published by Wiley-Blackwell (November 2009).
