Create Your Own Pet First Aid

A first-aid kit should include emergency phone numbers, a pet-first aid guide, thermometer, lubricant, and tools for wound care, eye care, and poison care.  Below are recommended items to create your own kit:

• First-aid guide for pets

• Emergency telephone numbers

• After-hours emergency numbers

• Rubber gloves

• Rectal thermometer

• Blunt-tipped metal scissors

• Tweezers

• Clippers

• Cotton Balls

• Antiseptic (Chlorhexidine or Povidone iodine)

• Triple Antibiotic Ointment

• Isopropyl Alcohol

• Alcohol Wipes

• 3% Hydrogen Peroxide

• Petroleum jelly or K-Y jelly (travel size)

• 1" and 2" adhesive tape

• 2" and 4" roll gauze

• 3"x3" and 4"x4" gauze pads

• 2" roll gauze (for muzzle)

• Self-adhering elastic wrap

• Eyewash (Saline in squirt bottle)

• Individual eye flushes
